Funeral Services with an “Air of Dignity”, Always

“Just the way the Sheehy’s conducted themselves, there was an Air of Dignity, always” ~ Willie Winters, lifelong Southsider

Children who grew up on the South and Southwest sides of Chicago went to a lot of wakes. Your parents brought you. Your grandparents brought you. Your neighbors brought you. It was something you were expected to do, just as generations of your family had done; pay respects to the family who had a loss. The communities and parishes were tight on the southside and the southwest suburbs so many of the families migrated to. Ask a southsider where they’re from and they’ll likely give you the name of a Parish, a neighborhood or the cross streets. More than likely you’ll get all three and then a full report of the families who lived on the block. If a neighborhood person did really well and got a law degree, became an MD or got a PhD; they’d still tell you where they went to high school first!

Willie Winters is a neighborhood guy. Active in the community his entire life, engaged with St. Xavier, the Beverly Area Planning Committee, many political activities and a long list of community service performed over decades, he remembers generations of the Sheehy Family. He speaks about the Legacy of Service of the family, the classy way that they take care of families. While so familiar with Bob and Jim Sheehy as contemporaries and their father, he remembers that the service provided to the close-knit community was like an orchestra that hit every note perfectly. He called it “an air of dignity.” That’s something generations of families continued to experience and continued to return to in their time of need. They could focus on grieving and welcoming their friends and family, while Bob, Jim, their outstanding Directors and Staff took care of every other detail.

While so many things have changed about funeral homes, like Pre-planning, Cremation, Memorial Services, etc., it remains vitally important to the Sheehy Family that the continued professional service and that “air of dignity” never change. Generations of the Sheehy Family have been assisting generations of Chicago area families in Burbank and Orland Park for over a century. They’re there when you need them, day or night, every day of the year.

We call the Beautiful Notes of Thank You we receive “Roses”. We treasure them.

We save every note we get from families in a file we call “Roses”. Naturally they are a beautiful expression by families that make us feel good. They’re actually more than that, to us. They’re a reminder of how much it means to people when we do everything we need to do, and we’ve promised to do, to ensure that their experience is a beautiful remembrance of a person they loved so deeply.

We encourage our entire staff to revisit our Roses File often to remind them of the things that mean the very most to people under trying and difficult circumstances. It is never lost on us how much effort and strength it takes for a family to think of us at a time where they have just experienced a loss. We know that it’s our responsibility to make them feel better and make them as comfortable as we possibly can. We want to attend to every detail from the most obvious, to the most intuitive, based on continually honing our listening skills to know what we can do to provide the very best service and experience we can create. It is our privilege to be serving families for 3 generations and over 100 years.

When we receive a note letting us know we’ve done just that; it’s a rose.

For at-need services, pre-planning services or any questions you may have, we would be honored to speak with you any time of day or night. Our funeral homes are located in Orland Park and Burbank. Contact us at 708-857-7878 or http://www.sheehyfh.com/

Memorial Services offer some important flexibility

The timing of a loved ones passing is never easy. There are times when the complicating factors are even greater with extended family out of town, holidays, school schedules, or any variety of reasons that make it more difficult for people to attend services and offer families the comfort they truly want to be able to share. Robert Sheehy & Sons Funeral Director Bill Kiley explains how Memorial Services have grown in frequency to allow families more time to plan the service and maximize the ability for people to attend and honor the life of their loved ones.

Often, it’s been Saturday afternoon Memorial Services since there isn’t the added pressure of a cemetery schedule the next day to be concerned with or locked into. It fits into many more schedules and relieves pressure on families rushing to meet timelines. As Bill Kiley states, “Any way we can ease the pressure and offer comfort to families at a time of loss, it’s our responsibility to do so, and we take it very seriously. We will accommodate their wants and needs and we will absolutely make sure they know this kind of service is available to them.”

From 1913 to today…we still do it the “Sheehy Way”

We continue to Serve Chicago and the Southwest Side for over a Century

The Sheehy Family has been in the Funeral Service industry since 1913. This is our 3rd Generation of Family Owned & Operated commitment to the many generations of families we’ve been privileged to serve over that long span of time. The feeling we get from families who are trusting us to serve them generation after generation is very humbling to our family. We’ve moved locations over the years without ever leaving the parishes and neighborhoods where our families and friends called home. Each year we visit nearly 70 different faith and parish communities in fulfilling the final wishes of the families we serve. The history of each and every one of these communities fill us with pride and gracious images as we continue to visit them and lay to rest members of families who built these communities and parishes and helped them continue their missions in the great neighborhoods of the Southwest Side and Southwest Suburbs. To have the “Sheehy” name associated with these places within this large geographical swath of Chicagoland is a remarkable feeling for our family.

With our chapels now in Burbank and Orland Park, Illinois, Bob and Jim Sheehy, sons of Robert J. Sheehy maintain the trust and responsibility of carrying on the premium service that has defined our father, uncles, and grandfather.  We know they’re all watching, and expecting this generation to meet and exceed the family’s commitment to the current generations of families we serve. And we’re committed to doing just that. If you need us, we’re here. And honored to continue serving your family.

When the need for our services arise, we promise to do everything possible to make sure that your primary responsibility is comforting your family and friends. We’ll take care of all the details that need attention. Feel free to contact us at any time of day or night, any day of the year, should any question or need arise. We’re available for a consultation on at need or pre-planning of funeral services. There is no cost or no obligation with our consultations. Simply, an opportunity to help you in any way we can.
