From 1913 to today…we still do it the “Sheehy Way”

We continue to Serve Chicago and the Southwest Side for over a Century

The Sheehy Family has been in the Funeral Service industry since 1913. This is our 3rd Generation of Family Owned & Operated commitment to the many generations of families we’ve been privileged to serve over that long span of time. The feeling we get from families who are trusting us to serve them generation after generation is very humbling to our family. We’ve moved locations over the years without ever leaving the parishes and neighborhoods where our families and friends called home. Each year we visit nearly 70 different faith and parish communities in fulfilling the final wishes of the families we serve. The history of each and every one of these communities fill us with pride and gracious images as we continue to visit them and lay to rest members of families who built these communities and parishes and helped them continue their missions in the great neighborhoods of the Southwest Side and Southwest Suburbs. To have the “Sheehy” name associated with these places within this large geographical swath of Chicagoland is a remarkable feeling for our family.

With our chapels now in Burbank and Orland Park, Illinois, Bob and Jim Sheehy, sons of Robert J. Sheehy maintain the trust and responsibility of carrying on the premium service that has defined our father, uncles, and grandfather.  We know they’re all watching, and expecting this generation to meet and exceed the family’s commitment to the current generations of families we serve. And we’re committed to doing just that. If you need us, we’re here. And honored to continue serving your family.

When the need for our services arise, we promise to do everything possible to make sure that your primary responsibility is comforting your family and friends. We’ll take care of all the details that need attention. Feel free to contact us at any time of day or night, any day of the year, should any question or need arise. We’re available for a consultation on at need or pre-planning of funeral services. There is no cost or no obligation with our consultations. Simply, an opportunity to help you in any way we can.

The most important virtue when serving a family is “Trust”

In the confusing and disconcerting moments after a loss of a loved one, there is no more important virtue than Trust. Decades ago, there was little thought where a loved one would receive services and to whom the care of that loved one would be turned over to. There was a family funeral home in the neighborhood where people instinctively went to. If anything, there may have been a choice based on faith affiliation. Most funeral homes were indeed operated by long standing families within the parish, or small geographical communities people lived in.

As families expanded and moved further away from the close-knit neighborhoods they’d spent generations in, the decision on who to call when you experienced a loss changed. There was less familiarity. Some of the families that operated funeral homes weren’t the same families, some became corporate owned entities. The guarantee that there was a close relationship between generations of your family and generations of the family operating the funeral home didn’t necessarily apply anymore. But in some cases, that still held true, and the trust built over decades was still in place.

Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home has been a trustworthy choice for over a hundred years. Grandfathers, Fathers, Sons, and their entire families have dedicated their lives to providing the professional and compassionate service to families on the South and Southwest sides of Chicago their entire lives. For generations. Trust has been the virtue that has been ingrained in our family and something we consider absolutely precious to us as we continue to serve our families in our communities no matter how widespread those communities become.

We always want to be the Family that your Family Trusts. We think about that and work at it every day…and night. We’re here for you when you need us.

It’s important that people know that the Sheehy Family are committed to their families.

“My in-laws worked with the Sheehy Family. They knew what to expect, and their expectations were exceeded. They were well accommodated, and the treatment was excellent. When the services are complete, you realize it was first-class and excellent”, states Jim Segredo, a longtime resident of the Southwest Side of Chicago, St. Rita Alumni, and the President of Montini High School.

Generations of Sheehy’s have been taking care of servicing families on the south and southwest sides of Chicago and Suburbs. Community means a great deal to Bob & Jim Sheehy and to the entire Staff of the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home family. A familiar name among all the Faith Communities they serve, the standard of Professional and Compassionate Care and Service is a hallmark of the Sheehy Family.

Inside and outside, we wanted Sheehy Funeral Home to feel more like a home.

“When we built our new funeral home in Orland Park, it gave us an opportunity to think a different way about how funeral services could be more comfortable for families and friends who visit during difficult times” says Kathy Sheehy, who created the new décor for the Orland Park funeral home. From softer colors, to large windows providing sunlight, to higher ceilings, to more comfortable furniture, to a large octagonal coffee room with a charming and cheerful patio feel, no detail was overlooked in creating a space that offered comfort. “The sitting areas outside of the visitation area itself are very important to our overall space” according to Bob Sheehy. Adding “Even when people come for Preplanning funeral arrangements, I can see how important these oases of comfort are to them. It’s important to us that people feel that while they’re here, this is their home”.
