Sheehy Funeral Home took care of everything.

In the case of Pat Byrne, when he experienced a terrible loss, he was already a very close friend of Bob Sheehy. It’s only with reflection over some years that Pat wondered how Bob was able to handle the professional elements of arranging and directing funeral services and yet be the emotionally supportive dear friend to him at the very same time. The Sheehy Family has been taking care of family, and friends for 3 generations and over 100 years. After that much time, so many of the families you serve are friends and neighbors and people we know and love. When it’s such a close friend, it reminds you of the impact of losing a treasured loved one. That’s a feeling we do our best to remember with every family we make arrangements for. It’s also a great reminder of what a privilege it is to be in the position to provide the service we provide.

We’re here 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year to help families in Orland Park and in Burbank. For any questions about our Services, Memorials, Cremation,Pre-Planning or At-Need, Contact us at 708.857.7878

What Families look for more than anything is Trust.

In the past, the determining factor in choosing a funeral home had more to do with location and being close to the neighborhood. What has transcended that now that families are more spread out, is a sense of trust. Knowing that a family is managing the care of your loved one and will be with you every step of the way is important to families. What hasn’t changed and never will, is that these services are the last time a family will have an opportunity to honor the life of their loved one and offer extended family and friends the opportunity to offer comfort, share precious experiences and say farewell as a community to a very loved member of their family.

Connecting to a Funeral Home that’s been there for generations with a family maintaining long relationships over time is important to people. With over 100 years in business, the Sheehy Family has provided funeral services to as many as five generations of families who have chosen them at their time of need or for prearrangements. As Bob Sheehy says, “it really comes down to trust.” It’s a privilege to have the trust of the families who choose Robert Sheehy & Sons.

Generations of the Sheehy Family serving generations of your family.

“I’ve been going to Sheehy’s since I was a young child” says Willie Winters, a lifelong Southside resident who grew up in a family that always paid their respects to the families in the tight knit communities of Chicago’s Southwest side and close in suburbs, like Beverly, Mt. Greenwood, Scottsdale, Burbank, Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park. It would be easy to go on and even start mentioning all the Parishes that helped keep those families so close. What Willy remembers then and continues to see now, is the legacy of service for 3 Generations of the Sheehy Family. Willy remembers Robert Sheehy Sr. and is a contemporary of Bob and Jim Sheehy now. “What has remained constant is the ‘Air of Dignity’ among the entire family. It continues to today”. While so many things have changed about funeral homes, like Pre-planning, Cremation, Memorial Services, etc., it remains vitally important to the Sheehy Family that the continued professional service and that “air of dignity” never change. Generations of the Sheehy Family have been assisting generations of Chicago area families in Burbank and Orland Park for over a century. They’re there when you need them, day or night, every day of the year.

We’ve Spent Over a Century Building Trust

“More often than not, it really comes down to trust”. Three generations of Sheehy’s have built that trust for more than 100 years. The Sheehy Family has been serving fourth and fifth generations of families over that time. There was a time over many of those years where families made choices almost strictly on location; the convenience to their neighborhood, church and parish. As the world has become bigger and more spread out, those factors have changed. Families want to turn to trust, professionalism and experience.

Robert J. Sheehy & Sons has never lost sight of the most important reasons people choose a final place to celebrate the life of their loved one, to receive family and friends and to bid farewell to a person who has meant so much to so many. Families trust Bob and Jim Sheehy and the entire professional staff to manage all the details, big or small, so they can focus only on the most important elements of the visitation and funeral services. As customs and traditions change and evolve, the Sheehy Family is there to provide the services the family desires. They can accommodate requests from Pre-planning, to Traditional Services, to Cremation and Memorial Services. They are there to serve families and earn that trust with every service. They’ve been doing so for a long time.

For at-need services, pre-planning services, cremation, memorials, or any questions you may have, we would be honored to speak with you any time of day or night. Our funeral homes are located in Orland Park and Burbank. Contact us at 708-857-7878 or http://www.sheehyfh.com/

Cremation has become a more requested service in the past several years. Requests for cremation as a final disposition has increased in recent years. In the case of a Memorial Service, we can provide Memorial Registry Books, Memorial Service folders, Flag Cases, Personal Floral Tributes, or a number of other options that can facilitate a dignified service. Among other faiths, the Roman Catholic Church has included in its Rite of Christian Burial, and approved the burial of cremation remains in consecrated ground.

Letters of Compassion, Care and Gratitude

When Sheehy Funeral Home receives “thank you” notes, we place them in a file labeled “Roses”. Because to us, that’s what they are; a beautiful reminder that a family appreciated our service to them in a very difficult time for them. When we consider that they took the time to sit down and write to us, it’s especially encouraging. Of course, it makes us feel good that we have helped comfort a family beyond their expectations. That’s something we strive for with every family we care for. We save all of these notes in our Roses file, and we refer back to them frequently. Every member of our staff sees every Rose we receive. It’s a reminder to all of us just how important it is to make sure we think of everything and see to it every detail is taken care of.

To the families who send these beautiful notes, the Sheehy Family thanks you. It’s a privilege to provide services to you, in many cases for several generations. The common words we see in all of these notes are compassion, care and gratitude directed toward our service. We feel the same way about the families we serve. It’s not necessary to send a note. At the same time, we’ll add one more word to those special words that we see in these special notes; Grateful. We are grateful for being the family you trust with your loved one.

For at-need services, pre-planning services or any questions you may have, we would be honored to speak with you any time of day or night. Our funeral homes are located in Orland Park and Burbank. Contact us at 708-857-7878 or http://www.sheehyfh.com/

SHEEHY FUNERAL HOME “Where Technology Enhances Tradition”

Technology helps provide a warm welcome to families. It also makes saying “thank you” easier.

Upon entering Sheehy Funeral Home, one of the first things you’ll see is the person you came to honor. Our directory display shows your loved one’s image on our electronic screen and also a directory to the chapel where the visitation is taking place. It will also show additional information for religious services, place of burial or other important information regarding the arrangements. So, the person you are coming to honor is usually the first image you will see upon entering. While there are certainly practical elements to the use of technology, the warmth of seeing your loved one is the greatest benefit to the use of technology. It’s the best way to say “Welcome” and “Thank you”.

We also have electronic kiosks in our chapels for guests to register their name and address in an electronic guestbook. It’s easy to use, but if there is any difficulty at all, a member of our attentive staff is standing by who can assist. This registry has taken away one of the most difficult problems for families after the services. All of the information is transferred and given to the family, along with pre-printed envelopes of your visitors. Families no longer struggle with reading hand-writing or having to look up additional information to thank their friends for coming and honoring their loved one. Hours of time are saved with this service, and so many families let us know how helpful it has been to them after the services have concluded. In a traditional service like ours, these uses of technology have been truly appreciated.

At Sheehy Funeral Home, we’re always looking for any way to make a difficult time a little easier.

We designed our funeral home to be like a home for the families we serve.

“It’s tough enough for people to be at a wake. It was important to have a warm place, with soft tones, a lot of natural light, comfortable and welcoming. That went into the planning for every part of the building” according to Bob Sheehy. Kathy Sheehy shared that vision and the talent to make it a reality. “People need a place to welcome their families and friends like it was their own home. That was the mindset we needed. People need to take a little break throughout the services, so it was very important to make sure that space provided the comfort to do that. Our coffee and break area provides families a place to put out refreshments and enjoy a lovely space to get away for brief periods of time” says Kathy who helped with the design and all of the accents at Sheehy’s.

When people come in to go to a visitation, make pre-planning arrangements, or have the difficult responsibility of making at-need funeral arrangements, it is vital to us at Sheehy Funeral Home that we make the environment here as warm and comforting as we possibly can.

For pre-arrangement questions, at-need services or any questions you may have, we’re available every day around the clock to serve your family at 708.857-7878 or www.sheehyfh.comwith our locations in Orland Park and Burbank.

The Sheehy Way for over 100 years

Three Generations and a hundred years later, the commitment of the Sheehy Family to the generations of families we’ve been privileged to serve remains as strong as ever. Serving the Southwest side of Chicago and suburbs from Burbank to Orland Park and all of our neighboring communities, parishes and congregations has been an honor for us. We understand that it’s necessary to get everything right when it comes to serving families when they say good bye to a loved one. We understand what it means to be there when you need our assistance and guidance and to allow you space and comfort when our home becomes yours. We stress to all of our professionals what it means to make every service a celebration of the life their first mission. We call it the “Sheehy Way”. We are measured by the families we serve. When things are taken care of with the greatest of care, we know we’ve been the family that our families have come to rely upon at the most difficult times in their lives. We’re honored to have been able to be that family for over a century.

Commitment Describes the Sheehy Family.

“They understand tradition. They understand commitment. They understand accommodating people during a time of need.” Montini Catholic High School President and St. Rita Alumni Jim Segredo describes the Sheehy Family this way. They’re committed to their community and all of the communities they’ve served over the years. First class, excellent service, comfortable, those are words families use to express their experience at Sheehy. The Sheehy Reputation in Our Communities

Starting in St. Sabina and St. Leo Parishes near 76th and Halsted and now a century later to being located amid five large parishes in Orland Park, Sheehy Funeral Home has been a convenient location for families on the south and southwest side of Chicago and Suburbs for years. Our location in Burbank continues to serve communities and parishes in the near south suburbs. Something that hasn’t changed is how many families have carried their neighborhoods and the neighborhood feeling with them no matter where they’ve settled along the way. It’s still the southwest side of Chicago and as Jim Sheehy tells it “it’s truly a very unique place”. It’s also home to our families.

THERE’S AN AIR OF DIGNITY ABOUT SHEEHY FUNERAL HOME

[youtube+https://youtu.be/dCRhOMCK564]

Willie Winters is a long time Southsider, a neighborhood guy. He’s been attending wakes his entire life, starting with his grandfather decades ago. “With the Sheehy’s there was an air of dignity about the place; about Mr. (Robert Sr.) Sheehy and now that same air with Bob and Jim” Sheehy, relates Willie, adding “It’s personal to me”.  It’s personal to everyone who is in need of service from a funeral home. It’s personal to us. Whatever we can do to bring you comfort during and even after a loss, we’re here for you. If you have any questions about funeral services, (click here) and we will respond to you and answer any questions or concerns you might have.

THIS IS A FAMILY… THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE WE WOULD GO

When a death occurs, where would you turn first? To family, of course. When Pat Byrne’s family experienced a loss, they knew they could count on the Sheehy’s. They’re family to us. We’ve had a relationship for a long time. “Their service and professionalism is superior”, according to Pat. So much so, that he states clearly “There is no other place we would go”.

Memorial Services are Part of Changing Family Traditions for Many.

Anyone can choose a Memorial Service and often times it makes the timing of the service more convenient for people who wish to celebrate the life of a loved one. The time constraints of today’s society make it more difficult for people to attend services who would really like to be there to comfort family members and friends. Memorial Services often make it easier to help friends and family plan for a service. Saturday afternoons have become a time many people choose to optimize the chance of people being able to attend. Having a Saturday Memorial Service means families are not forced into a burial the next day with cemeteries not doing burials on Sundays. It can ease some pressure for families.

If you would like to discuss a Memorial Service with Bill Kiley or another Funeral Director please (click here)

Consultations are a complimentary service at Sheehy Funeral Home and there is no obligation.

OUR GRANDFATHERS AND UNCLES WOULD BE PROUD

“How loyal people are to us is truly remarkable to us” states Jim Sheehy. Keeping the Sheehy name and reputation strong is important to Bob and Jim Sheehy. Knowing that when people need them, they are experiencing among the most difficult times of their lives and they call the Sheehy Family for help, is humbling. Over a century of service and into our third generation of our family serving families on the south and southwest sides of Chicago, we appreciate the loyalty to our service and commit to every family that we’ll do everything we can during their most difficult times.

MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, IT COMES DOWN TO TRUST

Connecting to a Funeral Home that’s been there for generations with a family maintaining long relationships over time is important to people. With over 100 years in business the Sheehy Family has provided funeral services to as many as five generations of families who have chosen them at their time of need or for prearrangements. As Bob Sheehy says, “it really comes down to trust.” It’s a privilege to have the trust of the families who choose Robert Sheehy & Sons.

My Friend and My Funeral Director at the Same Time

When Pat Byrne needed the services of his friend Bob Sheehy, he needed his friendship at the time of tragic loss just as much. “I don’t know how he did it” recalled Pat, adding “as a professional he left no stone unturned, while at the very same time providing me comfort at the time of a terrible loss”. He was the first guy to come to Pat’s need as a friend and professional. As Pat thinks back, he doesn’t know how Bob was able to be such a great friend and great professional at the same time. The truth may be that there is no boundary between friendship and service when the families you serve are not just “like family”. They are “family”.

Mourning is Personal and Has No Start or Finish Time

Comfort

There may be no more personal emotion that mourning a loved one. Everyone is a little bit different in how they mourn and how long they mourn. Part of the reason our custom includes a visitation to celebrate a life, is to promote a healthy and very necessary emotional response. While every experience really is truly unique, there are many commonalities among people going through a mourning process. Key events and anniversaries are always liable to inspire an emotional reaction. All of these “firsts” are a reminder that your loved one who celebrated with you is no longer humanly present to do so. These times can be especially difficult. Perhaps the most positive thing about these dates and events is that they are predictable and families can make the effort to be together during these times. It’s wise to plan these events and anniversaries well in advance of the actual dates. They can often be moments of sharing very positive memories of your loved one as well.

Death can be expected or sudden. During particularly long illnesses where debilitation of mind and or body has occurred, much mourning has taken place prior to the actual moment of death. It’s not unusual for people to seem to recover emotionally a bit sooner in these circumstances. It is possible that family has been “all cried out” during a long illness where their loved one has been uncommunicative or compromised significantly over the time of the illness. In cases of sudden deaths, families may be looking for answers and trying to think of ways they may have been able to help, or prevent a death from occurring. In these cases, it is important that friends remain close and help families deal with the grief of losing someone too soon. People need assurance and reassurance from family and friends that death can come randomly and is almost completely beyond anyone’s control.

The most important thing to remember is that “Listening” is the most important gift a friend can offer. Being a good listener is being a healer. The most common phrase at a visitation is “If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask”. What nearly everyone will need is a good listener. Be ready and be generous with your time when the call comes.

At Sheehy We Offer Several Cremation Service Options

WE STRIVE TO OFFER PEOPLE OPTIONS; INCLUDING SEVERAL CREMATION SERVICE OPTIONS

Cremation has become a more requested service in the past several years. The increase in requests for cremation have resulted from a number of different preferences that range from cost, to a desire to have ashes spread in memorial in special places, to even environmental concerns for space. At Sheehy, we provide a full range of cremation services that include a direct cremation or more traditional services that conclude with cremation. These services include, but are not limited to, a Visitation in our chapel, a Church Memorial Service which can be personalized with family photographs, video and memorabilia or even an outdoor Memorial Garden Service.

Sheehy Funeral Home offers a large selection of urns and containers for families to choose from for burial or safe keeping. We also provide suitable containers if your loved one’s wishes include placing their remains in final resting places of their choosing. Cremation is a key part of the full range of services available to honor and celebrate the life of your loved one. For more details about the protocol and procedure for cremation (click here) to contact Bill Kiley, or another of our Licensed Funeral Directors.
