We’d Love to Show You Our Home. It’s Your Home When You Need Us.

We’ve been listening to our families for well over a century now. When it comes to our environment, we listen especially hard to what our families tell us. For a brief spell of time, our home is your home; a place to receive family, friends and loved ones. We don’t want you to worry about anything beyond sharing the love, some tears and celebrating the life of the person you’ve entrusted us to care for. With every remodel and upgrade we make, we do so with the mindset of what would make our space more comfortable and useful for our families.

Kathy Sheehy is the gifted Interior Decorator behind our many changes over the years, including the complete remodel we’ve completed recently. Every time we update our funeral home in Orland Park, it gives us an opportunity to think a different way about how funeral services could be more comfortable for families and friends who visit during difficult times”  Bob Sheehy adds “From the parlor areas outside of the visitation chapels, to our family lounges, the common corridors, to offices and even restrooms,  every aspect of our building is important to our overall space” going on to say “Even when people come for Pre Planning funeral arrangements, I can see how important these touches of comfort are to them. It’s important to us that people feel that while they’re here, this is their home”.

Sometimes the longest step a person takes is through the threshold of a funeral home. We’d like to make that step a comfortable one and a positive experience. So, if you have visited us, click to see the changes we’ve made. If you haven’t been our guest or a guest of a family we serve, by all means take a virtual 360 degree tour of our place. When you need us, we’re ready and we’re here for you.

For at-need services, pre-planning services or any questions you may have, we would be honored to speak with you any time of day or night. Our funeral homes are located in Orland Park and Burbank. Contact us at 708-857-7878 or http://www.sheehyfh.com/

A Rose by any other name is a Sincere Thank You!

Bob Sheehy proudly declares, “We call them Roses.” Roses being those regularly received ‘Thank you notes’ in the mail at Robert J Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home in Orland Park. All of these “Roses” are saved in a very large special file folder. There are times where things get incredibly busy and/or difficult, where the Roses File becomes the place to turn to get some perspective, and a reminder of what our true mission is here. It is helping a family in their most difficult and desperate moments. It’s endeavoring to provide the kind of effort and deeds that are never forgotten. When you refer to yourself as a ‘Family Owned & Operated Funeral Home’, it implies your standard of service is naturally much higher. It implies a promise that you will be treated like family. For over a century, this has been true for the Sheehy Family. It’s not just a commitment, it’s a covenant with the generations of Southside Families we’ve served for over 100 years.

Roses are a reminder and a confirmation of what it looks like when we’ve done what we work hard to do every time, with every family. When these emotionally exhausting and physically exhausting services are complete, and often loved ones are still coping with their grief, they have the desire and energy to compliment our services and acknowledge that we made the most difficult of times a bit easier for them, it means everything to us. There are never too many Roses in the file. Our entire family and staff are uplifted by these wonderful, precious notes and letters. While it’s not necessary to send a rose, it sure is nice and makes us feel extra special.

So, Thank you to all of the families who entrust the arrangements of your loved ones to the Sheehy Family and professional staff. We’re grateful and it’ a privilege to serve your family. And to all who have sent Roses, or offered their kind thanks to us in person, or let us know in any other way, thank you for the lovely kindness.

MEMORIAL VISITATIONS ARE FLEXIBLE FOR FAMILIES ALWAYS, BUT ESPECIALLY AFTER A PERIOD WITH RESTRICTIONS

Memorial Services have become even more popular now. Families are planning this method of celebrating life after dealing with restrictions of places, of travel, and even places of worship. It has always been true that families could ease some tension with out of town and distant relatives by hosting memorial services on a date certain, without any limitations from venues for the memorial and restaurants, etc. It has been a very practical choice in a time where so many families have fanned out across the country and even the world. In the past couple of years, that challenge has been even more profound, so choosing to do a Memorial later on became simply the best choice available. In so doing, many families embraced the idea as a very good option. Bill Kiley of Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home advises families of all of their options to celebrate the life of their family and loved ones.

As Bill Kiley states, “Any way we can ease the pressure and offer comfort to families at a time of loss, it’s our responsibility to do so, and we take it very seriously. We will accommodate their wants and needs, and we will absolutely make sure they know this kind of service is available to them.”

BOB WAS THERE AS A FRIEND AND A PROFESSIONAL WHEN NEEDED MOST

Pat Byrne remains amazed to this day that his dear friend of many years, Bob Sheehy, helped him cope with a very personal difficult loss, and see to every detail of a plethora of funeral arrangements at the very same time. In fact Bob was among the first people Pat reached out to. In addition to sharing profound grief together, Pat remembers, “ Bob left no stone unturned to make sure every last detail was taken care of perfectly.”

In retrospect, the Sheehy Family has been helping families in a personal and profound way for over three generations, adding up to well over a hundred years in the south and southwest neighborhoods and communities of Chicago.  “My brother Jim and I learned from our dad and our uncles that you never know when the next phone call may come and being ready to be there and comfort families as best we can is what the Sheehy name is all about” as Bob Sheehy retells the long time generational advice passed on to he and his brother Jim. Bob added, “Helping Pat through a very devastating and difficult time helped me realize how very difficult loss can be to families and dear friends. Remembering this helps me understand that very feeling with every family we’re privileged to serve.”

EARLY ON IT WAS PERSONAL TO ME; THE AIR OF DIGNITY AT SHEEHY~ Willie Winters, lifelong Southsider.

Children on Chicago’s Southwest side, often grow up to be adults on the southwest side or southwest suburbs! Willie Winters is certainly one of them. Tight-knit families were, and remain, very committed to comforting one another in times of loss. From Beverly and Mt. Greenwood to Evergreen Park to Oak Lawn and to Tinley Park and Orland Park, the Robert J. Sheehy & Son Family has made and maintained a covenant with those families to assist them in their time of grief. Willie has seen 3 Generations of the Sheehy Family maintain the stewardship of the Family name. It is with reverence that he refers to Mr. Sheehy Sr. and remembers his kindness to all, and even more prominently, the “Air of Dignity” that was present at all times when the Sheehy Family took care of neighborhood families.

As a contemporary of Bob and Jim Sheehy, Willy remarks about how the Family has endured for over 100 years and 3 generations, and continues to maintain that continued special “Air of Dignity” that each generation has passed down to the next. While so many things have changed about funeral homes, like Pre-planning, Cremation, Memorial Services, etc., it remains vitally important to the Sheehy Family that the continued professional service and that “air of dignity” never change. Generations of the Sheehy Family have been assisting generations of Chicago area families in Burbank and Orland Park for over a century. They’re there when you need them, day or night, every day of the year.

What’s in a name? 3 Generations of Commitment, that’s what.

When generations of families think of the “Sheehy Funeral Home” name when they have a loss of a loved one, it’s feelings of pride, humility, and loyalty that comes to mind.

Jim Sheehy thinks about his grandfather and his uncles, who all worked to ensure there was trust and equity in the Sheehy name, looking down on his brother Bob and him. It both inspires and motives both of them to continue the legacy of service that has eclipsed a full century.

Suffering a loss, be it expected or tragic in nature, is very difficult for people. What is most comforting during those moments is to know who to call, and knowing they will know precisely what needs to be done so your family can concentrate on their family members and friends. The Sheehy Family has been that family that people on the Southwest Side of Chicago could rely on to take care of all the big things and little things connected to making sure your loved one’s life is celebrated in the most appropriate way. Quite simply, these brothers have grown up learning this and then doing this their entire lives. Their staff are just like family when it comes to compassion, concern and professionalism. You’ll notice this immediately, when you feel confident and comforted that they will see to everything you need. It’s their honor to do so.

Memorial Services offer options

Memorial Services are beyond popular these days. Families are planning this method of celebrating life in a manner that meets the needs of all the “Loved ones loved ones” Having less pressure on time and date enable many families to accommodate many more guests than might have been able to attend a visitation or funeral service otherwise.

Bill Kiley of Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home advises families of all of their options to celebrate the life of their family and loved ones. Memorial Services have increasingly grown in popularity as families have become more spread out and travel difficulties and restrictions have placed some burden on close friends and family being able to attend on short notice.

As Bill Kiley states, “Any way we can ease the pressure and offer comfort to families at a time of loss, it’s our responsibility to do so, and we take it very seriously. We will accommodate their wants and needs, and we will absolutely make sure they know this kind of service is available to them.”

Bob Sheehy “Choosing a Funeral Home is determined mostly by Reputation & Location”

Bob Sheehy “Choosing a Funeral Home is determined mostly by Reputation & Location”

Historically,  Sheehy Funeral Homes have been in the center of close-knit parishes and strong faith communities on the south and southwest side of the city of Chicago. From our original location at 76th and Halsted in the heart of St. Sabina and St. Leo to Orland Park in 1988 and the many wonderful growing parishes and congregations. Bob and Jim Sheehy were always connected to a part of those close-knit communities. While they could choose their location as the metropolitan area kept growing and expanding, it was vital to continue to earn the remarkable reputation and legacy left to them by the generation of the Sheehy Family before them. That Legacy of Service and Reputation now extends over 100 years.

That’s a long, proud legacy that isn’t matched by many family owned and operated entities. As Jim Segredo points out, “People all over the southside who grew up and knew the neighborhoods so well, all understood the Sheehy’s were there for them, always.” It could have been St. Sabina or St. Leo, or these days, St. Michael, St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Francis of Assisi, Our Lady of the Woods, St. Bernard, St. George, St. Julie Billiart, St. Stephens, Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church St. Albert the Great, St. Bede the Venerable, St. Damien, in addition to Parkview Christian Church, Christ Lutheran and All Saints Lutheran Church. In fact, annually we visit over 70 different worship spaces for our families’ arrangements. It’s a privilege to serve in each and every place.

Jim Sheehy describes the southwest side of Chicago and south suburbs as “this is truly a very unique and very special place”.  It simply can’t be stated better.
