Thank you notes are so precious, we refer to them as “Roses”

Bob Sheehy and the whole staff at Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home  proudly tells us, “We call them Roses.”

He’s referring to ‘Thank you notes’  they regularly receive in the mail. These “Roses” are saved in a very large special binder, that can be easily paged through, as a reminder of why it’s so important to provide the best service possible to families. Families who are likely experiencing the most vulnerable days of their lives. It provides a reminder of the kind of effort and deeds that are always treasured and never forgotten for generations to come, in a generational business. As a ‘Family Owned & Operated Funeral Home’, your standard of service is naturally much higher. We commit from the very first contact that you will be treated like family. For over a century, this has been true for us. It’s more than a commitment, though. It’s a covenant between your family and our’s, that we’ve held dear for over a hundred years.

For the families we serve at Sheehy, services are often emotionally and physically exhausting. When those services are complete, and loved ones who continue to cope with grief, take the time and extra energy to acknowledge our staff, and our work, it means a great deal to us. We’ll find a place for every one of these Roses that are sent to us. Simply put, they remind us of why we chose this vocation and ministry in the first place. It’s not necessary to send a Rose. Many families share with us verbally how pleased they were with our service. But when we do get them, and we get them regularly, it has a positive, energetic, and remarkable effect beyond measure.

Thank you to all of the families who entrust the arrangements of your loved ones to us. We’re grateful. It’s a privilege to serve your family every time you might need us. To every family or person who has sent us a Rose; “you made our day”

Professionally and Personally, Robert Sheehy & Sons are there when you need them..

Close friends for decades, Pat Byrne and Bob Sheehy have shared many memorable moments. When Pat experienced a devastating loss, he needed Bob in his professional capacity as a Funeral Director, Pat shares that he didn’t know how Bob was able to be both; his dear friend on a personal level, and the extraordinary professional on another. Pat knew very well that Bob was grieving his loss. Bob was grieving the same loss, while at the very same time taking care of every last detail to ensure flawless services would take place. As Pat recalls, “no stone was left unturned to make sure every last detail was taken care of perfectly.” Generations of Sheehys have been taking care of generations of families all over the southside and south suburbs of Chicago for more than a century.

This particular arrangement was a difficult one; emotionally, as this was a friend so close to Bob, but he understood the roles he needed to fill for his friend and his professional vocation..

“The families who have trusted us have been associated with our family before my involvement.  My brother Jim and I learned from our father and our uncles how important that connection is with families. We’ve done our best to pass that feeling on to every member of our staff at our funeral home, and ensure that is how we always conduct our services. We are a family taking care of our extended family of people who’ve trusted us for over a hundred years.” That’s how you define “The Sheehy Way”.

We’re here 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year to help families in Orland Park. For any questions about our Services, Memorials, CremationPre-Planning or At-Need, Contact us at 708.857.7878

From the outset of Robert J Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home in Orland Park, Design and Decor had one goal; It must feel just like home.

That meant every decision being made; windows, sunlight, ease of movement, lounge, chapel space, parlor space, parking, all of it…had to feel so much like home, that our families felt completely comfortable and treated our space as their home while they were spending time with us. Kathy Sheehy spent many hours over the years directing the effort to achieve all of these feelings, choosing every surface, every finish, every fabric, every piece of furniture to provide both aesthetic beauty and comfort to every room and space at Sheehy Funeral Home.

Moreover, with literally hundreds of guests passing through our home every week meant constant upkeep and maintaining that beauty and comfort with a great deal of care. There is likely no time over the many years here in Orland Park that some area or some element of our space wasn’t being remodeled or replaced, updated or enhanced. “We made changes as the preferences of families changed over time, not to mention the need to add more and more technology as we went along too” according to Bob Sheehy. He had no idea how fortunate he was to be married to a professional Interior Designer….until he did.

Kathy Sheehy reiterates that “Comfort was the most important thing”. People come here dealing with loss and difficult circumstances. Our opportunity is to make it a little easier.

Keeping the Sheehy Family Name Strong for Generations for More Than a Century

Jim Sheehy smiles when he thinks of his Grandfather, Father and Uncles who established the Sheehy name in Funeral Services more than a hundred years ago. He feels he and his brother Bob have achieved the mission of keeping their family name strong in the Southside and Southwest suburbs of Chicago. Having served many generations of many families over that time, it’s only natural for so many of those families to think of the Sheehy name when their family experiences a loss and requires funeral services. That loyalty runs both ways, with generations of Sheehy’s committed to the highest level of professional services to every family they are privileged to serve.

Suffering loss, whether expected or unexpected, is emotionally difficult and confusing for people. When families feel comfort in knowing that the Sheehy Professional Directors will handle every detail, large or small, it offers a little bit of relief at precisely the right time. Knowing the funeral will be taken care of and arranged and serviced in the most compassionate and professional way is a comfort in itself. That’s something the Sheehy family is very proud of. Bob and Jim Sheehy grew up learning the lessons of their parents and grandparents. You’ll notice this immediately. You’ll feel confidence in the fact everything will be taken care of right down to the very last detail.

We owe it to our loyal families to provide the atmosphere of “Love & Comfort”

Generations and a Century later, one thing is for absolute certain; things are always changing. Needs, preferences, styles and customs all evolve over time.  We’ve been listening to the families we’ve served from the very beginning; over a century ago. When it comes to our environment, it makes all the difference to them and the purpose for which our home becomes their home. Our mission is to provide a space to receive family, friends and loved ones. Families shouldn’t worry about anything beyond sharing the love, memories and celebrating the life of their loved one.  We’ve moved, remodeled, built, rebuilt and redesigned and remodeled with tremendous frequency over the years. With every change and upgrade we make, we do so with the knowledge of what would make our space more comfortable and useful for our families. Bob Sheehy believes “From the parlor areas outside of the visitation chapels, to our family lounges, to common corridors, business and planning offices and even restrooms,  every aspect of our building is important to our overall space planning” He adds, “Whether a family has experienced a sudden loss, or when people come for Pre Planning funeral arrangements, it’s very evident how important the details and touches of comfort are to them. We absolutely want people to feel that while they’re here; to feel like home”.

Very often,  the longest step a person takes is through the threshold of a funeral home. We’d like to make that step a more comfortable one and a positive experience. So, if you have visited us, click to see the changes we’ve made. If you haven’t been our guest or a guest of a family we serve, by all means take a virtual 360 degree tour of our place. When you need us, we’re here for you.

For at-need services, pre-planning services or any questions you may have, we would be honored to speak with you any time of day or night. Our funeral homes are located in Orland Park and Burbank. Contact us at 708-857-7878 or http://www.sheehyfh.com/

The Sheehy Family has taken care of my family and many others, my whole life ~ Willie Winters, lifelong Southsider.

Generations of young children will remember attending wakes at Sheehy Funeral Homes as part of their youth and beyond. The parishes and congregations of the Southwest side  of Chicago are unique in the way that so many of those children become adults there, keeping the neighborhood and the neighbors close to them. Willie Winters is certainly one of those. The families were tight-knit and remain so. Traditions are dearly held close.

From Beverly/Mt. Greenwood to Evergreen Park to Oak Lawn to Tinley Park and Orland Park, the Robert J. Sheehy & Son Family remains the place families have trusted for generations to serve them when they’ve lost a loved one. Willie has witnessed 3 Generations of the Sheehy Family maintain steady stewardship of the Family name. Willy refers to their manner as “An Air of Dignity.” That feeling was forever present decades ago, and it remains today.

Willy is a contemporary of Bob and Jim Sheehy, so he knows well the legacy their Grandfather, father, uncles and the family has endured for over a century and 3 generations. They continue to provide the highest standards of service.

While so many things have changed in the funeral industry, including Pre-planning, Cremation, Memorial Services, etc., it remains vitally important to the Sheehy Family that the “air of dignity” is a constant. Generations of the Sheehy Family have been assisting generations of Chicago area families from the southside to Orland Park for over a century. They’re there when you need them, day or night.

Sheehy Funeral Home Principles: Build in the Right Location & Build a Strong Reputation

Sheehy Funeral Homes have always located themselves in the center of close-knit parishes/faith communities on the south and southwest side of  Chicago.  Our original location at 76th and Halsted in the heart of St. Sabina and St. Leo parishes started our journey that eventually led us to build and operate in Orland Park in 1988. While choosing locations as the metropolitan area kept growing and expanding, it was vital to continue to build a strong reputation and continue the legacy of service of the Sheehy Family in every area we served. That reputation is now over 100 years and still growing.

Jim Segredo, whose family has interacted with the Sheehy family for generations, describes it this way, “People all over the southside who grew up and knew the neighborhoods well, understood the Sheehy’s were always there for them.” Whether St. Sabina or St. Leo in the early days, or now, St. Michael, St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Francis of Assisi, Our Lady of the Woods, St. Bernard, St. George, St. Julie Billiart, St. Stephens, Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church, to Parkview Christian Church, Christ Lutheran and All Saints Lutheran Church. In fact, annually we visit over 70 different worship spaces for our families’ arrangements. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve in each and every place our families celebrate their faith.

Jim Sheehy describes the southwest side of Chicago and south suburbs as “this is truly a very unique and very special place”.  It simply cannot be stated better.
